Join us for a Lunch and Learn session exploring the latest trends in textile waste diversion, what leading organizations are doing today, and celebrate the success of the Recycling Collection Drive!
Hear from PPG Member mpolo designs inc.‘s Narishdath Maraj, who works to turn waste into opportunity by developing new materials and creating pathways for emerging designers. Drawing from real-world textile diversion projects, Narishdath will explore practical and creative approaches to rethinking textile waste within organizations. The presentation will examine strategies ranging from extending the life of branded uniforms through reuse, debranding and upcycling, to creating new diversion opportunities through designers, material experimentation, art and community engagement.
Building on lessons from the Branded Materials Transition Project (BMTP) and its Upcycled Gear Fashion Show, Narishdath will share examples of how textile waste can move through different pathways. These include connecting surplus materials with designers through mpolo designs inc. and Sample/d, exploring textile waste as a feedstock for new materials through research using a FeltLOOM, mycelium composite research using natural fibre textiles, and using diverted materials in creative applications such as public art. Together, these examples highlight how organizations can approach textile waste through a combination of practical interventions, experimentation, partnerships and creative engagement.
