PPG Presents Days of Awareness – March 2026

Days of Awareness: March

Partners in Project Green shares Days of Awareness each month to spread awareness and start conversations. These days may have a social, historical, or sustainable significance worthy of our attention. These are just a small sampling of important days to acknowledge or remember. If we missed any days of importance that should be included, please share them with us.

World Wildlife Day – March 3rd

From tiny pollinators to large mammals, wildlife plays a critical role in keeping ecosystems healthy and balanced. World Wildlife Day reminds us that biodiversity is worth protecting for nature and for future generations.

Ways to Get Involved:

International Women’s Day – March 8th

International Women’s Day celebrates the social, cultural, economic, and political achievements of women around the world. It’s also a call to keep working toward gender equity and inclusion. This year’s theme is Give To Gain which emphasizes the power of generosity and support.

Ways to Get Involved:

  • Support women-owned businesses, amplify women’s voices, advocate for equitable policies, or learn about women leaders making change.
  • Attend the International Women’s Day Summit taking place in Toronto on March 9, 2026.

Spring Equinox – March 20

The Spring Equinox marks the moment when day and night are nearly equal, and it’s the official start of spring in the Northern Hemisphere. It’s a time-long associated with renewal, balance, and fresh beginnings, as nature awakens and days become longer. As trees start to bud and gardens start coming back to life, the equinox invites us to reset, reflect, and look ahead with optimism.

Ways to Get Involved:

  •  Get outside, start a garden, set new personal or community goals, or support local environmental initiatives.

International Day of Forests – March 21st

Forests are critical natural assets that support environmental, social, and economic well-being. They play a key role in climate regulation, carbon storage, biodiversity conservation, and watershed protection, while also providing spaces that enhance public health and quality of life.

Ways to Get Involved:

  • Reduce paper use, support tree-planting efforts, choose sustainably sourced wood products, or explore and respect your local green spaces.

World Down Syndrome Day – March 21st

World Down Syndrome Day recognizes and celebrates the contributions, strengths, and diverse experiences of people with Down syndrome. It is an opportunity to advance understanding, challenge stereotypes, and reinforce the importance of inclusion, accessibility, and equity across workplaces, services, and communities. This year’s theme is Together Against Loneliness which is a common experience for those with Down syndrome and their families and highlights the importance of connection and community support.

Ways to Get Involved:

  • Wear mismatched socks to show support
  • Learn more about and promote inclusive and accessible workplace practices, advocate for equitable policies and accessibility, and support organizations and initiatives led by people with disabilities and their families: https://dsao.ca/resources/

World Water Day – March 22nd

Held on March 22nd year since 1993, World Water Day focuses on the importance of freshwater, celebrates water and raises awareness of the 2.2 billion people living without access to safe water. It is about taking action to tackle the global water crisis. A core focus of World Water Day is to support the achievement of Sustainable Development Goal 6: water and sanitation for all by 2030.

World Water Day 2026 is all about how water and gender equality are deeply interconnected. Without safe water, sanitation and hygiene close to home, women and girls bear a heavier burden than men and boys. They collect and manage water. They care for people made sick by unsafe water. They lose time, health, safety, and opportunities. And, they are often left out of decision-making.

About Days of Awareness

Since its launch in 2023, Partners in Project Green’s Days of Awareness campaign has become a monthly celebration of the days, events, and observances that matter most to our community. Designed to highlight moments of social, historical, cultural, and environmental significance, this initiative invites us to pause, reflect, and engage in meaningful conversations that extend beyond sustainability alone. Each month, we spotlight a curated selection of awareness days to honour the diversity of our team, Members, and the communities we serve — fostering connection, inclusion, knowledge-sharing, and collective action across our network.
