Plastic Free July

Plastic Free July is a shared global movement that helps millions of people reduce plastic waste through simple, everyday choices and be part of the solution to plastic pollution – so we can have cleaner streets, oceans, and beautiful communities. By making small changes like switching to reusable bags, bottles, and food containers, we can contribute to a cleaner environment.

Global Energy Independence Day – July 10
Global Energy Independence Day raises awareness about the need to shift from fossil fuels to more sustainable forms of energy, such as solar, wind, and geothermal. The date commemorates the birthday of Nikola Tesla, a pioneer in electric power

Take action:
- Switch your home or business to a certified renewable electricity tariff, or ask your supplier how much of your current power comes from clean sources.
- Carry out a simple energy audit of your home, identifying draughts, inefficient appliances and lighting that could be upgraded to reduce waste.
- Explore whether rooftop solar panels, a heat pump or battery storage could work for your property, and look into available grants or incentives.
- Reduce your everyday energy demand by switching off standby devices, using energy-efficient bulbs and being mindful of heating and cooling.
World Population Day – July 11
World Population Day was established by the United Nations Development Programme in 1989. It highlights global population issues, including the importance of reproductive health, gender equality, and sustainable development.
This year’s World Population Day theme is “Realizing the hopes and aspirations of young people – today and for the future.” The theme draws on a new report based on one of the largest global surveys of its kind, capturing the views of more than 108,000 internet-connected young adults aged 18 to 39 across 73 countries. Titled Lives, Choices and Futures: What young people want and what shapes their decisions about relationships and parenthood, the report offers a global snapshot of what young adults today want from relationships, family life and the future — and what they feel is standing in their way.

About Days of Awareness
Since its launch in 2023, Partners in Project Green’s Days of Awareness campaign has become a monthly celebration of the days, events, and observances that matter most to our community. Designed to highlight moments of social, historical, cultural, and environmental significance, this initiative invites us to pause, reflect, and engage in meaningful conversations that extend beyond sustainability alone.
Each month, we spotlight a curated selection of awareness days to honour the diversity of our team, Members, and the communities we serve — fostering connection, inclusion, knowledge-sharing, and collective action across our network.
