Circular Economy Leaders Consortium (CEC): Tour of Longo’s Stouffville

The Circular Economy Leaders Consortium Toured Longo’s

On June 29th, the Circular Economy Leaders Consortium (CEC) participated in a tour of Longo’s, Stouffville, which is Canada’s first “near net-zero” energy supermarket. CEC members were given an exclusive look at the facility’s solar panels, EV charging stations, cardboard and plastic recycling, ORCA food digestor, and refrigeration system.

The morning began with an overview of Longo’s sustainability strategy, including their goal to divert 90% of operational waste from landfill by 2025. Lively discussions broke out about the innovative measures taken by Longo’s to achieve this goal and the lessons learned along the way. Even members outside the commercial sector were given new ideas to apply to their unique operations.

This unique Longo’s gave Members a tangible example of combining multiple sustainability measures to reach net zero.

Thank you for your hospitality and the informative tour and presentation Longo’s!
