Change Energy Launches New Online Tool

Clean Hydrogen Production Assessment Tool

Recently, Change Energy has developed a new, online tool (with supporting funding from Natural Resources Canada).

The tool is intended to be used by large power consumers (usually industrial facilities, such as in steel, cement or chemicals manufacturing) to conduct high-level assessments of their operations for the potential to produce hydrogen from low-carbon electricity.

The user of the tool inputs some general characteristics of their facility’s power supply and demand, and the tool yields an estimate of the amount of hydrogen that could be produced on-site, along with the approximate costs and savings.

In some jurisdictions, such as Ontario, large power consumers can reduce their per-unit price for electricity by adding certain types of electrical loads, such as electrolysis plants that generate hydrogen. This potential varies from site to site, so the tool was developed to help operators self-assess whether their facility has the right starting conditions.
