On January 29, Partners in Project Green hosted our signature networking event, the Sustainability Leaders Social, at our member, Carbonhound’s beautiful office space in downtown Toronto.
This event brought together sustainability professionals for an evening of networking, sharing new year sustainability goals and celebrating members’ and non-members’ sustainability endeavors.

Putting circular principles into practice
With the continued goal of making PPG’s events as low-waste as possible, we worked with Muuse to bring in reusable dishware system instead of single-use plates, cups, and utensils. This event avoided the production and disposal of dozens of disposable items.
Typically, a 75 people event using disposable foodservice items would generate approximately 7.5 pounds (3.4 kg) of single-use waste. Replacing those items with reusables prevented that waste entirely and avoids an estimated 19 pounds (8.6 kg) of associated carbon emissions, based on life-cycle averages for single-use foodservice products.

To further support our waste diversion efforts, we worked with Wastenot Farm to provide compost collection, allowing organic waste from the event to be diverted from landfill. As part of their closed-loop regenerative composting system, Wastenot Farm take organic residuals as feedstock for millions of red wiggler worms to produce Jocelyn’s Soil Boosters. This line of regenerative growing products empowers Canadians to quit chemicals and instead grow healthy gardens aligned with Mother Nature.
In addition, we worked with Sweets From the Earth to provide bulk, plant-based, baked goods for our guests, significantly reducing plastic waste in the process.
