How to Conduct a Home Waste Audit

People Power Challenge 2020

You may have heard about waste audits for the office, but what about the home? Join this interactive and action oriented virtual event with the UofT Trash Team to learn how to do a waste audit at home and reduce your impact.

About the UofT Trash Team
The U of T Trash Team is a team of undergraduate and graduate students, postdocs, researchers, volunteers and dedicated staff with a common goal to increase waste literacy in the community while reducing plastic pollution in our ecosystems.

The event will take place via ZOOM from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 22. Upon registration, you will receive a confirmation email which will consist of a survey we ask all participants to complete in advance of the session.

Please note that this is a People Power Challenge event. Only individuals from participating organizations will be able to join this session.


About the Presenters

Chelsea Rochman
Assistant Professor in Ecology & Co-Founder and Director of the UofT Trash Team

Chelsea is an Assistant Professor in Ecology at the University of Toronto and a co-founder of the U of T Trash Team. Chelsea has been researching the sources, sinks and ecological implications of plastic debris in marine and freshwater habitats for more than a decade. She has published dozens of scientific papers in respected journals and has led international working groups about plastic pollution. In addition to her research, Chelsea works to translate her science beyond academia. For example, Chelsea presented her work to the United Nations General Assembly and is called upon to advise the provincial and federal governments on policies related to plastic pollution. Through the U of T Trash Team, she leads local science efforts that can directly inform local and global mitigations efforts.



Hannah De Frond

Hannah is a plastic pollution researcher at the University of Toronto, and a member of the U of T Trash Team. Hannah’s work currently focuses on testing and developing laboratory methods for analyzing microplastics (plastic particles <5 mm) from environmental samples, and assisting with Trash Team activities, such as the Home Waste Audit.
