Calstone: Water Stewardship

Posted June 11, 2015

Calstone Inc., a Scarborough-based manufacturer of steel-based furniture products, has extended its commitment to sustainability by installing innovative Low Impact Development stormwater management infrastructure on their property. Once fully operational, the system will capture 100% of the rainwater from Calstone’s 3,900 square metre roof, which will be used to enhance employee green space, irrigate landscaped areas and facilitate on-site stormwater infiltration. This will divert approximately 1.8 million litre of water from the municipal storm sewer system every year, and will help to restore a more natural water cycle to the Highland Creek watershed.

The project received support from the Ontario Ministry of Environment and Climate Change Showcasing Water Innovation grant and Partners in Project Green’s Water Stewardship capital grant.
